Guide
LinkedIn video specs: size, length, shape and format
A LinkedIn post video can be 75 KB to 5 GB and 3 seconds to 15 minutes, in shapes from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1. A LinkedIn video ad is stricter: MP4 only, 75 KB to 500 MB, 3 seconds to 30 minutes, in 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16, at less than 30 frames per second.
LinkedIn has two sets of video rules: one for the videos you post from a profile or a company page, and a stricter one for video ads. A film that posts fine can still be rejected as an ad, so it helps to know both before you export. Every number below comes from LinkedIn's own help pages, linked at the end, and was checked on 16 October 2026.
LinkedIn video post specs
These apply when you post a video from your profile or your company page.
| Spec | LinkedIn post |
|---|---|
| File size | 75 KB to 5 GB |
| Length | 3 seconds (2 on mobile) to 15 minutes |
| Aspect ratio | 1:2.4 to 2.4:1 |
| Resolution | 256 × 144 to 4096 × 2304 |
| Frame rate | 10 to 60 frames per second |
| Bitrate | 192 kbps to 30 Mbps |
| File types | MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, MKV, WMV and others |
The range of shapes is wide, so 16:9, 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16 all post. The limits that catch people most are the minimum length, when a very short loop is under three seconds, and the bitrate ceiling, when a high-quality master is uploaded straight from an editor.
LinkedIn video ad specs
Video ads are tighter. LinkedIn lists four shapes, each with its own size range, and accepts only MP4.
| Shape | Smallest | Largest |
|---|---|---|
| 16:9 landscape | 640 × 360 | 1920 × 1080 |
| 1:1 square | 360 × 360 | 1920 × 1920 |
| 4:5 vertical (recommended) | 360 × 450 | 1080 × 1350 |
| 9:16 vertical | 360 × 640 | 1080 × 1920 |
- File size: 75 KB to 500 MB.
- Length: 3 seconds to 30 minutes. LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds so the ad qualifies for all feed placements.
- File type: MP4 only, with H.264 or VP8 video and AAC or MPEG4 audio. ProRes is not accepted.
- Frame rate: the page says "less than 30 FPS". Export at 29.97 or lower to be safe.
- Captions: an SRT file can be added.
The frame rate is the easiest one to miss. Many editors export at exactly 30 frames per second by default, which does not meet "less than 30". If you are making ad cuts for LinkedIn, set the export to 29.97.
Which shape to use on LinkedIn
Most people see LinkedIn on a phone, where a 4:5 or 1:1 video takes up more of the screen than 16:9. LinkedIn marks 4:5 as recommended for ads. For a post that also appears on desktop, 1:1 is a safe middle ground. Whatever shape you choose, lay the film out for it instead of cropping a 16:9 master, so text and the product stay in frame. Our guide to video aspect ratios for product launches explains how.
Check your file before you upload
The quickest way to avoid a failed upload is to test the exported file. Our free video specs checker reads your video in the browser and checks it against the LinkedIn post and ad limits above, plus X, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. It flags the 30 frames per second problem, the wrong shape for ads and files that are too large.
Captions matter on LinkedIn, because many people watch with the sound off. Our note on captions for muted product videos covers how to write them, and the SRT subtitle maker turns your script into a caption file.
If you would rather have the LinkedIn versions made for you, every package we make includes 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1, each laid out for its shape. Launch + Ads adds three openings in three shapes, ready for LinkedIn and Meta.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best video length for LinkedIn?
For ads, LinkedIn recommends 15 to 30 seconds, which also keeps the video eligible for every feed placement. For posts, LinkedIn allows up to 15 minutes, but a short film that makes its point early is easier to watch in a feed, where many people scroll with the sound off.
Can I post a vertical video on LinkedIn?
Yes. Posts accept shapes from 1:2.4 to 2.4:1, which includes 9:16. Video ads accept 9:16 at 360 by 640 up to 1080 by 1920. Keep key text large, because most people watch on a phone.
Why was my LinkedIn video ad rejected?
Common reasons are the wrong file type, a shape outside the four ad shapes, a frame rate of 30 or more, or a ProRes file. LinkedIn ads take MP4 files with H.264 or VP8 video and AAC or MPEG4 audio. Export again with those settings and check the file before you upload it.
Does LinkedIn support captions on video?
Yes. LinkedIn accepts an SRT caption file for video ads, and you can add captions when you post a video. An SRT file is a text list of timed captions. You can make one from your script with our free SRT subtitle maker.

You usually need 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5. Here is where each fits, how to lay them out instead of cropping, and why to check platform specs before exporting.
How to caption a product video for muted autoplay
Most feeds start videos muted. Burn short captions into the picture, keep a separate subtitle file, and check the film makes sense with the sound off.
