Product video, explained for founders
Short, practical answers to the questions founders ask before they make a launch, feature or ad video. New ones are added every week.
Where should you put a product video on a landing page?
Put the video near the top of the page, under the headline and the main call to action, so a visitor sees it without scrolling far. Let it start on a click rather than with sound, show a clear first frame, load it after the text, and keep a text version of what it says nearby.

How do you add chapters and captions to a YouTube video?
Add chapters by listing timestamps and titles in the video description. The first timestamp must be 00:00, there must be at least three, in ascending order, and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long. Add captions in YouTube Studio under Subtitles, by uploading a caption file or writing them yourself.

What is a SaaS explainer video? A plain-English guide
A SaaS explainer video shows how a software product works in a few clear steps, usually 20 to 90 seconds long. It starts with the problem, walks through the steps in the product and ends with the result. Software teams use it on the homepage, in sales emails and in onboarding.

What is a product launch video? A short guide
A product launch video is a short film, usually 15 to 60 seconds, that introduces a new product or a major release. It states the problem, shows the product solving it and ends with one call to action. Teams use it on launch day, on the homepage, in ads and in Product Hunt galleries.

Can you make a product video with AI? What works and what doesn't
Yes, AI can help make a product video, mostly with the script, captions, a first voiceover and resizing. It is much weaker at showing your real product, because generated interfaces and people often look wrong and can misrepresent what the product does. Use AI for the parts around the film, and record or rebuild the real product for the screens.

How to make a product demo video for your app
Pick one workflow a new user cares about, write a short script for it, set up a clean demo account with realistic data, record your screen and your voice separately, then cut out waiting, add captions and export in the shapes you need. Aim for 60 to 90 seconds.

How much does an explainer video cost?
It depends mostly on four things: how the studio prices (per minute, per project or a fixed package), the length, the style (character animation, live action or screens from your product) and what is included, such as the script, voiceover, revisions and extra formats. Compare quotes on the same brief, item by item.

What should you send a video studio?
Send the product link, the one thing viewers should remember, the screens or features to show, the length and formats you need, your deadline and the name of the person who approves the film. A short, clear message gets a faster and more accurate quote than a long one.

What makes a good video hook for a SaaS product?
A good hook shows the problem the viewer already has, in plain words and on the product's own screen, within the first few seconds. Show the moment it goes wrong or gets easier. Leave the logo and the company story until after the problem is clear.

Questions to ask before hiring a video studio
Before you hire a video studio, ask how the film is planned and approved, what the price includes, how many revisions you get, who owns the finished files, and whether it is made from your real product. Good answers are specific and written down.

A product video brief template you can copy

What is a product video storyboard? (with a template)
A product video storyboard is a one-page plan of the film, scene by scene, showing what appears on screen, the words shown, and the voiceover line, agreed before anything is made. It lets you change the story when changes are cheap, and it avoids surprises in the finished video.

Video aspect ratios for a product launch
Most launches need 16:9 for your website and YouTube, 9:16 for Reels, Stories and Shorts, and 4:5 or 1:1 for feeds. Make each version laid out for its own shape instead of cropping one film, because cropping loses text and the product. Always confirm current specs in each platform.

Product video vs demo video vs explainer
A product video shows what your software is and why it matters, usually in 20 to 40 seconds. A demo video walks through using it, usually 60 to 90 seconds. An explainer teaches the idea or problem behind it, often with animation. Pick by the question your viewer is asking.

How to write a product launch video script
Write a launch video script in four beats: a hook that names the problem or result, the product in one line, one or two moments of it working, and a close with one action. For voiceover, plan roughly 2 to 2.5 words per second, so about 45 words for 20 seconds.

How to announce a new feature with a short video
Announce one feature, show the result it gives the user, and say where to try it, in 15 to 30 seconds. Open on the problem or the finished outcome, not the feature's name. Show your real interface, add captions, and end with a single link or action.

How long should a product demo video be?
It depends on the job. Use 6 seconds to get noticed, 15 seconds to explain one idea, 20 to 40 seconds for a launch film, and 60 to 90 seconds for a full demo. Shorter wins when the product is simple. Only go longer when viewers need the time to understand.

How to caption a product video for muted autoplay
Burn short captions or on-screen text into the picture so the video makes sense on mute, and keep a separate subtitle file (SRT) for platforms that accept one. Keep each line short, high contrast, inside the safe area, and test the whole film with the sound off.
